What It’s Like to Work at ITW as a Young Professional | Annie Radville

❖ Sales & Applications Engineer
❖ Instron

How did you learn about ITW?
I learned about ITW through my neighbor who worked in HR for ITW at the time.

Tell us about your ITW journey thus far, in what role(s) and businesses have you worked in?
I started my ITW journey in 2014 after graduating from Saint Louis University.  My first role was with Buehler, located in Lake Bluff, IL. During my first year at Buehler, I completed a rotational program and rotated through the lab, service, marketing and sales departments.  After my first year, I transitioned into the sales department full-time and held the role of Technical Sales Representative for three years.  Two years ago I transferred over to Instron, where I am now a field Sales & Applications Engineer based in Chicago.  My current role is very similar to my previous role at Buehler, however I am at a new division with different products and applications.

What does a typical day in your current role look like?
I am a field based employee, so on a typical day my role involves a lot of traveling!  I travel to customer sites three days a week.  On a travel day, I will typically visit 2-3 customers in a day.  While I am on-site, I review the customer’s lab and applications to make recommendations on equipment solutions that best meet the customer’s needs.  I typically provide a software demonstration, and occasionally I will do a formal PowerPoint presentation.  In between meetings, I am taking phone calls from customers and my team.  After my on-site visits, I will work on emails, quotes and reports at the hotel.  I typically work from home on Mondays and Fridays to get caught up on my “paperwork” and schedule the next week of visits.

What is your favorite ITW memory?
Too many to name just one!  My favorite ITW memories include the first national IWN conference that was hosted in Norwood, Massachusetts and the annual YPN Chase Corporate 5k run event.  Additionally I have enjoyed the many outreach opportunities I have had – including the IWN day of service at Children’s Home & Aid and volunteering at ITW Speer Academy.
